In general, the rules concerning prohibited items in baggage are standardized under Moroccan law, but each airline has its own rules concerning the number and dimensions of baggage allowed on board.
These rules may vary slightly depending on the airline and destination, so it's advisable to contact your airline if in doubt. To avoid stress at Essaouira or other Moroccan airports, we recommend that you check the regulations before packing your baggage.
Hand Baggage Rules
It is forbidden to carry items in the cabin that could pose a risk to the aircraft, passengers or crew. Hand baggage must not contain highly flammable, explosive, corrosive, toxic or otherwise hazardous substances or objects. In case of doubt, we recommend that you place the item concerned in your hold baggage.
At Essaouira Mogador Airport, aviation safety regulations define liquids as follows:
- Fully liquid products (such as beverages and perfumes)
- Pastes, creams, liquid cosmetics, liquid/solid mixtures and pressurized containers
This includes items such as toothpaste, hair gel, shaving foam, soups, syrups, spreads and similar products. All non-solid foods are also classified as liquids.
When boarding at Essaouira Mogador Airport, it is forbidden to carry liquids or gels in individual containers exceeding 2 liters in your hand luggage. Aerosols must be in containers of less than 500 milliliters, and the total capacity of aerosols per passenger is limited to 2 liters. These restrictions do not apply to medicines or special diet foods.
In your hand luggage, you are allowed to carry :
- Liquids in containers of 2 liters or less
- Aerosols in containers with a maximum capacity of 500 millilitres, with a total limit of 2 liters
- Medicines and special dietary foods (including baby food). These items will be inspected, so it is advisable to pack them in such a way as to facilitate their presentation during security checks.
- Hypodermic syringes and needles (provided the needle is no longer than 6 cm).
The following list is given as a guide and does not cover all prohibited items. If in doubt, place the item in your checked baggage.
Items commonly prohibited in the cabin:
- Metal hooks, knitting needles, nail files
- Razor blades, metal combs with tips
- Scissors and knives with blades longer than 6 cm
- Tools (e.g. multi-tools), fireworks, camping gas cartridges
- External batteries > 100 Wh, ammunition, toy guns
Categories of prohibited items :
– Firearms : all weapons, replicas, bows, slingshots
– Explosives ammunition, fireworks, explosives
– Sharp objects axes, knives > 6 cm, scissors
– Tools drills, saws, screwdrivers > 6 cm
– Incapacitating devices electroshock guns, neutralizing gas
– Blunt objects bats, truncheons
Just know that!
The security officer has the right to assess the potential danger of an object and may refuse to carry it on board an aircraft, even if the object is not on the list of prohibited items, if he or she considers that it could be used to cause injury.

Checked baggage rules

Explosive or incendiary substances and devicesand any equipment that could cause serious injury or pose a threat to aircraft safety are strictly prohibited. This includes :
- Ammunition
- Detonators and fuses
- Mines, grenades and other military equipment
- Fireworks and pyrotechnics (e.g. sparklers)
- Cartridges and smoke bombs
- Dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives
Exception Passengers may carry ammunition in their checked baggage under the following conditions:
- Ammunition is transported in compliance with aviation and weapons laws.
- Transport of ammunition is authorized in the country of destination.
- Ammunition is transported according to the airline's instructions.
